Mario Torres has been double bass principal in youth orchestras such as ‘Orquesta Juvenil Universitaria Eduardo Mata’ in Mexico; the ‘Dutch Orchestra and Ensemble Academy’ in Holland; and the ‘Guildhall Symphony Orchestra’ in England.

From 2015 to present, Mario has had concerto engagements with orchestras such as London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Schottish National Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic in United Kingdom; In the Netherlands, has been frequently invited to Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Noord Orkest and Orkest Van Het Oosten; In Beligium, has collaborated with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and the Flemish Opera; In Mexico, with the ‘Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM and ‘Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería.

Mario has collaborated with distinguished conductors and soloists such as Sir Simon Rattle, Valery Gergiev, Bernard Haitink, Antonio Papano, Michael Tilson Thomas, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Francois Xavier Roth, Sir Mark Elder, Vassily Sinaisky, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Lahav Shani, Ricardo Mutti, Gordan Nikolic, Antonio Papano, Elim Chan, Pekka Kuusisto, Yo-yo Ma, Lisa Ferschtman, Vladimir Jurowski, among others.

Mario is currently on trial as assistant principal at he BBC Philharmonic Manchester, Uk, from July 2019 and more recently, Mario is also on trial for the co-principal posicion at the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam, NL, from the 31st of May, 2021.

Mario Torres has been granted in different occasions in Mexico. From 2011 to 2012, he was member of the ‘Orquesta Sinfónica  Juvenil Carlos Chávez’, receiving a scholarship from the ‘Sistema Nacional De Fomento Musical’. Later on, Mario became a member of the ‘Orquesta Juvenil Universitaria Eduardo Mata’, where he was granted with a scholarship by UNAM between 2012 and 2014.

He has also been a Member of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Academy in Holland, from October 2015 to June 2016. In 2017, did two academies during his studies in London, the London Philharmonic Foyle Future Firsts Scheme and the London Symphony Strings Scheme.

Mario has collaborated in CD recordings; for Channel Classics with Xian Zhang and Rosanne Philippens playing Szymanowski and Stravinsky as double bass principal, and for Pentatone with the Netherlands Philharmonic orchestra and Marc Albrecht as tutti player to record Zemlinsky’s Die Seejungfrau. He also was a guest member of the wind quintet ‘Airlines’, with whom he recorded ‘Americas’, Paquito de Rivera’s music arrangements, for winds quintet, double bass and percussion.
